Graduate Nurses' Foundation of Sri Lanka

The GNFSL is a voluntary and independent professional organization with graduate nurses as its membership which focuses mainly on the development of the Nursing Profession in order to ensure the quality service to the public in terms of nursing care management.

It encourages nurses for further learning and the persuasion for higher studies. It also makes efforts to increase the awareness for research among nurses.

GNFSL promote friendship, goodwill and understanding and thereby healthy relationship amongst all categories of nurses and other professionals. It acts to build up a sense of self-esteem among nurses through an understanding that ‘Nursing is a noble and humanitarian service rendered with “ Tender, Loving, Care”…

The GNFSL proudly declares that it is the 38th member association of ‘Organization of Professional Associations’ (OPA) which is the umbrella association of all professional associations in Sri Lanka with 51 other professional bodies.

Today the GNFSL membership exceeds 300 graduate nurses including nurses from all categories; hospital services, community services and nursing education field from all over the country.

Vision

To lead the nursing professionals to the advancement and quality of practice.

Mission

To be a voluntary and independent body of nursing professionals to provide guidance and support for nurses pursue higher education, to enhance the quality of nursing practice through Continuous professional development and research.

Objectives

  • To function as professional nurses abiding by the constitutional requisites of the Graduate Nurses’ Foundation of Sri Lanka.
  • To function as a voluntary and professional membership independent of Trade Union influence.
  • To promote the active participation of the membership for the development of the profession and the welfare of its members.
  • To engage in further learning and the persuasion for higher studies.
  • To increase the awareness for nursing research and encourage nurses to engage in research.
  • To ensure the offer of quality service to the public in terms of Nursing Care Management (NCM).
  • To make requests for such privileges that other categories of graduates are entitled to in the Government service of Sri Lanka.
  • To promote friendship, goodwill and understanding and thereby a healthy relationship amongst all categories of nurses.
  • To promote a sense of self-esteem and job satisfaction with the understanding that nursing is a noble and humanitarian service.
