The Graduate Nurses’ Foundation of Sri Lanka proudly participated in the International Nurses Day 2026 celebration held on 16th May 2026 at the Neuro-Trauma Auditorium, NHSL, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Nurses Association and NHSL Colombo.

 

The welcome address was delivered by Ms R.A.D.C. Karunarathne, Chief Special Grade Nursing Officer of NHSL, who warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and participants to the celebration.

 

The programme was illuminated with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, followed by cultural performances. A special tribute and documentary presentation highlighted her invaluable contribution to the nursing profession.

 

Dr M.R.S. Jayathilake, President of GNFSL, delivered the Nightingale Commemoration Speech, emphasizing the dedication, compassion, and leadership of nurses in strengthening healthcare services in Sri Lanka. The event also featured an insightful session on the Nurses Day theme delivered by Prof. S.S.P. Warnakulasuriya. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr W.A. Keerthirathne, President of SLNA, expressing appreciation to all organizers, speakers, performers, and participants.

 

The celebration brought together nursing professionals, educators, and healthcare leaders in recognition of the remarkable service and commitment of nurses toward patient care and public health.
